About Pangaeo

Who Is Pangaeo?

Pangaeo

Pangaeo Solutions is an independent consulting company based in beautiful Victoria, BC on the west coast of Canada. Though the website uses we all over the place, Pangaeo is officially just one person, John Fletcher, with a network of other local independent consultants. John has nearly 20 years of experience building web mapping applications using Esri and Geocortex technology. John also feels awkward talking about himself in third person so just visit his LinkedIn page for more information and let's move on to the next section, shall we?

What Does the Name Mean?

Pangaea

Pangaeo is pronounced 'pan-jee-oh'. It comes from the Pangaea supercontinent, ending in 'o' as a nod to 'geography'. We geography nerds love our portmanteaus.

Pangaeo's logo is a stylized representation of Pangaea, with each of the seven slices representing one of the seven continents and the shape roughly approximating what we think Pangaea might have looked like. The logo is designed in the style of a choropleth map to represent Pangaeo's focus on GIS solutions.

The name was chosen to represent the idea of a single resource bringing together many different parts of a software project that normally are handled by separate people. For small projects it can be a huge advantage for a single person to be responsible for all aspects start to finish. Nothing is lost in translation or hand-off between teams and it allows us to be extremely nimble and responsive. It takes many years of experience with different parts of the software lifecycle to be able to pull this off - that is Pangaeo's competitive advantage.
